Description
2006 release, the fourth full-length album from Norwegian trio, The White Birch. Produced by Helge Sten of Deathprod and Supersilent fame, the band has drawn comparisons to Mark Hollis' solo recordings (Talk Talk's vocalist) with more atmosphere.. Singer and multi-instrumentalist Ola Flottum occasionally sings falsetto, but always sings softly, enhancing the keen sense of intimacy that the band creates so beautifully, while leaving attention to the poetic (and English) lyrics optional for listeners. 2006.

No surprises here just lovely, melancholic breeziness (and yes, it is a bit cold) from these folks. Strong reminders of their fellow countrymen Fra Lippo Lippi but a lot more atmospheric and interstellar in their approach. Actually, and this may insult a few readers, but this does have a Xanax-opiate rocket flush feeling like Radiohead on anti-depressants. But again it is beautiful and not epic--they know when to stop without excessive parades into the narrow darkness of self-indulgence. Tempered, beautiful and icy.
